Livingston, NJ – January 6, 2025 – Inteplast Engineered Films (IEF), manufacturer of blown polyethylene (PE) films, and Bison Bag, a New York-based flexible packaging converter, have developed a comprehensive portfolio of store drop-off recyclable flexible packaging solutions. The stand-up pouches align with brand owners’ sustainable packaging goals and satisfy the increasing demands of end users for more recyclable options.
Bob Stein, president of Inteplast Engineered Films, said that IEF is focused on taking a leadership role in developing sustainable packaging solutions for some time.
“Through projects with suppliers, other Inteplast businesses, and development partners like Bison Bag, IEF has long recognized the exciting opportunity to be a real innovator in the emerging sustainable packaging space. Several years ago, we made it a main objective for our technical and sales teams to focus on how we can better support the shift toward recyclable flexible packaging,” said Stein. “What started as a collaboration incorporating recycled content for a large retailer eventually evolved into our full InteGreen™ family of sustainable films. Today, we’re proud to be a leader in the space.”
IEF has since developed a full suite of store drop-off recyclable PE sealant films which feature low seal initiation temperatures and enhanced physical properties, both crucial in enabling the switch from traditionally non-recyclable multi-material laminations to recyclable all-PE laminations.
IEF also launched its blown PE print web product at November’s Pack Expo International, displaying samples featuring the film in a variety of stand-up pouch configurations printed and converted by Bison Bag. The new product is designed to be an economical alternative to emerging all-PE print layer options. When paired with IEF’s enhanced sealant films, converters can offset property loss and show comparable performance at significantly reduced costs in suitable stand-up pouch applications.
Bison Bag played a key role in developing the new product, serving as the liaison for brand owner requirements while also offering converting expertise.
Equipped with the new film technologies, Bison Bag has bolstered its portfolio of recyclable flexible packaging options with new store drop-off recyclable stand-up pouches, which are available in a variety of sizes and stand-up pouch formats.
Bison Bag President Scott Zgoda noted that the significant collaboration addresses brand owners’ demands for packaging.
“In some cases, brand owners come to us with specific sustainability-focused packaging requirements, such as recycled content minimums or desired certifications. In other cases, we’re tasked with presenting the innovations to them,” said Zgoda. “Our partnership with IEF has created additional solutions that specifically address the requests of end users for recyclable flexible packaging.”
IEF and Bison Bag are preparing additional sustainable packaging innovations for the market, with aims of satisfying sustainability goals across the value chain.
